- Josh Herrin(1) gets a good start and has the lead into the tight left hander followed by Danny Eslick(69), PJ Jacobsen(66), Richie Escalante(54), Tyler Scott(70), Hayden Gillim(95), Cam Petersen(45), Goeff May (99), Bradnon Paasch(96), Josh Hayes (4), et al…PJ is carrying wide sweeping lines through the infield.
- Coming across the line its PJ, Herrin, Eslick, Petersen, Escalante, Hayes, Gillim, Paasch, Scott. Teagg Hobbs(79) kept his position the same in 11th, Xavi Fores, the new Ducati Supersport factory rider, lands in 13th through the second lap. Cam Petersen has a big moment coming though the infield and nearly highsides it away (the beginning of a very eventful 200 for Petersen.)
- About 8 riders are in the front group while Cam Petersen starts waving his hand around like there is something mechanically wrong and goes from 4th to 7th as they race onto the banking.
- Xavi Fores (12),who started 14th for the race, is on the side of the track with a smoking motor. Xavi heads to the showers, his day is over before it even started. Cam Petersen keeps losing ground to the top group as they drop him on the banking by lap 5.
- Eslick (TOBC Racing Triumph Street Triple RS, 765cc) followed by Herrin (Warhorse HSBK Ducati Panigale V2, 955cc) in 2nd, Hayes ( Squid Hunter Yamaha R6, 600cc) in 3rd, Escalante (Vision Wheel M4 ECSTAR Suzuki GSX-R 750, 750cc) in 4th as they hit the banking.
- Teagg Hobbs is starting to close onto the lead group with Tyler Scott going with him. Herrin and Eslick are trading passes in every sector. Eslick really straight lines the bus-stop chicane and runs over the curb like a block pass.
- 7 Riders in the top group as Scott is losing time to Hobbs and Petersen. Your lead group on lap 7 is: 69, 66, 1, 54, 4, 96, 95.
- Petersen has more bike problems and hits a false neutral going into turn 1, his Yamaha having shifting issues since Friday.
- Josh Herrin runs way wide going into tun 1 and Hayes takes over the lead followed by Escalante, Eslick, PJ, Paasch who are all through on Herrin. The Ducati rider goes from 1st to 6th to begin lap 9. Hayes puts his head down right away and tries to gap second place but the field bunches back on up the banking. 54 leads, 4, 69, 66, 1, 96, 95, 79 who are all within a half a second of each other.
- Richie Escalante, who qualified in 5th place, looks comfortable and ready to race with Josh Hayes as the lead group hits backmarkers though the infield for the first time.
- Escalante is still holding off Josh Hayes until Richie Escalante has a big front-end moment going into the West Horseshoe right hander and saves a big slide. The number 54 come back quickly on the number 4 however and retakes the lead on the banking.
- The front group of 8 riders has settled down and there is becoming a small split because of lapped riders. The gap only lasts until the long run on the banking. Hayes and Escalante continue their fight at the front, each making clean passes whenever the opportunity presents. Cam Petersen comes in for an early PIT stop and indicates there is some sort of shifting issue still.
- The lead group coming through the infield is: 69, 1, 54, 66, 4, 95, 96 and Gillim goes 181 MPH. Teagg Hobbs in 7th starts to drop from the lead group and Tyler Scott is down to 13th place.
- Brandon Paasch (TOBC Triumph 765cc) looks very patient waiting behind the lead group. Paasch already has a couple of Daytona 200 wins using just that strategy. Tyler Scott (Vision Wheel Suzuki 750 cc) comes into the PIT and heads over the wall, his race is run for the day.
- The lead group has settled down a little bit as they hit backmarkers and start thinking about their first PIT stop.
- The front group is 6 riders now and make it through the lapped riders no problem. PJ gaps everyone a bit through the infield but is quickly caught by start/finish.
- Tyler Scott appears to have had electronics issues so that is something to look out for with Teagg Hobbs now. The leaders are really sliding around coming out of the corners in the infield and going onto the banking, PIT stops for tires should be happening soon. Escalante pulls a good lead at the perfect time and drops down to the apron to pit-lane while the rest of the field keep going to lap 18.
- Through the infield, where the pit boards are instead of the finish line like normal, PJ and Herrin both signal to their teams they are coming in for a PIT stop and Hayden Gillim follows them into pit-lane. Eslick(69), Hayes(4), and Paasch(96) stay out for another lap.
- Herrin had a great stop and made up over a second on PJ and Gillim coming out onto the track. Josh Hayes and Danny Eslick both come into PIT on the next lap, Paasch waved to them both as they dropped down to the apron signaling, he is next.
- Paasch comes in to PIT.
- It’s 54, 69, 4 in the lead group with a slight gap to Herrin(1) and PJ Jacobsen pretty far back racing with Hayden Gillim.
- Hayes sets the fastest lap with a 1:48:6xx and Herrin is really riding hard to catch up with the top three. Petersen is still circulating in 9th place after his early shifter issues.
- Herrin one-ups Josh Hayes and puts in a 1:48:3xx lap (which is close to qualifying times) and is right there with the lead group, making it a four-bike pack at the front.
- Herrin makes a double-draft two bike pass going into the bus-stop chicane over Hayes and Eslick that looked pretty clean and is racing with Escalante by the run to the line. Brandon Paasch is hit with a speeding penalty in pitlane (15sec added to race time is the punishment.)
- The lead group is Escalante, who looks comfortable racing with the vastly more experienced riders, Herrin, Hayes and Eslick. PJ Jacobsen is losing time to the lead group.
- 54, 1, 4 are gapping 69 a little bit and Escalante looks faster than anyone through the bus-stop chicane.
- Top 3 hit lapped traffic and Josh Hayes on the Yamaha looks planted at turn in but a little slow changing direction.
- Close call with backmarkers at turn 5, Escalante and Hayes both get squeezed out going to the inside making them both checkup while Herrin runs around the outside.
- Beyond the top 3, Gillim passes PJ for 5th behind Eslick but this second group is over 6 seconds off the front group. Hayes closes on Herrin and Escalante then locks the rear going into the International Horseshoe, saving a crash.
- The top 3 lap up to 15th place and Hayes catches back up to 54 and 1.
- Josh and Josh are stacking up behind Escalante though the infield.
- Hayden Gillim is lapping as fast as the leaders and passes Eslick, with PJ right behind him. That puts Gillim in a distant 4th, Eslick 5th and PJ 6th. PJ runs a little wide going into a right hander trying to pass Eslick, hits those off-line bumps and tucks the front. Lots of sparks but it looks like a pretty minor tip-over.
- Herrin takes over the lead and looks to push ahead of the second round of PIT stops but gets a slowed down by backmarkers through the bus-stop and the top 3 bunch back up again.
- Things are heating up at the front as Hayes tries a double draft pass into turn one but backmarkers prevent that from going anywhere.
- Hayes gets really slowed down by to lapped riders at the bus-stop and has a lot of work to do before the second pit window.
- Hayes loses another couple of seconds to Herrin and Escalante as they dice for the lead.
- Herrin tries a big move going into the horseshoe but inevitably runs wide, giving Escalante a gap before his PIT stop.
- Gillim crashes coming out of the chicane and Escalante and Herrin PIT together, both getting 2 tires.
- Josh Herrin has pit-out dialed in and runs around the cones dragging knee, he takes another second off the riders racing with him, coming out of pit-lane.
- Hayes comes into the PITs and has a good, clean stop.
- Eslick comes in and the TOBC crew has some unexpected problems with their pit-stop (front tire ended up staying on for the entire race.)
- Brandon Paasch follows Eslick into the PITs on the next lap and has a much smother time of it, losing no time on track. Escalante makes up the gap to Herrin and they both are pulling away from Hayes. PJ comes into the PIT after his low-side crash and it looks like the bike has minimal damage but the 99 is now a lap down.
- Herrin goes really wide into turn 1 and gets out of the seat getting on the gas trying to stay with Escalante.
- Escalante leads over a calmed down Josh Herrin.
- Josh Hayes is sitting about 10 seconds down from the leading two and 20 seconds up from Paasch. Cam Petersen is slowly moving up the field into 5th place.
- The Ducati and Suzuki keep repassing for the lead, both riders are demons on the brakes and aren’t afraid to bang bars though the infield.
- Herrin is really spinning coming out of the corners still as the duo continue through backmarkers.
- Josh Herrin goes deep into turn 1 for the lead and looks like it could end in disaster, but he keeps it tidy and has the point through the infield. Herrin, again, spins a lot coming onto the banking giving the lead back to Escalante going into the bus-stop.
- Escalante is really pushing now and causes Herrin to make mistakes in each of the horseshoe’s, running wide on the brakes both times.
- Petersen is back into the pits for tires and fuel as Herrin catches back up and passes Escalante into turn 1, Herrin is still spinning a lot coming out of the corners.
- Escalante has a much faster line through the bus-stop chicane and Herrin is really struggling the get the Ducati to change directions there. Escalante takes the lead on the banking as the duo hit lappers, splitting two riders coming across the line and then…disaster….
- Herrin runs a little deep into turn one as Richie Escalante turns in and his Suzuki gets clipped, sending Escalante off the track and he is out of the race. Herrin is running at the front on his own now. Hayes in second, Brandon Paasch is 3rd even considering his 15 second penalty, Teagg Hobbs sits in 4th, Gillim 5th, followed by Petersen (on timing) and Geoff May (Disrupt Racing GSX-R 600.) Josh Herrin links up Cam Petersen, who is a lap down and in 6th place, and they run together for a long while. Petersen is actually hounding Herrin. Even though Cam isn’t racing for the lead he is racing for the lead lap back.
- Four laps to go and RED FLAG, Teagg Hobbs and veteran Aussie Josh Waters get wrapped up with each other and crash, bringing a stop to the race.
- The Restart will be for 10 laps and Josh Herrin is penalized for his crash with Escalante, leaving him to start the sequel in 7th place. Hayes is on pole with Paasch and Hobbs joining him on the front row. With the red-flag re-grid Josh Hayes got back about 20 seconds from the leaders and is in a good position to finally (officially) win his first Daytona 200. It’s Paasch, Hobbs, Hayes, Gillim, Herrin and May through the first lap.
- Herrin drafts up to and takes the lead going into turn 1 followed by Teagg Hobbs and Gillim right behind them. Petersen, still a lap down, is racing with the front group again.
- The front group is bunched up and racing with a mix of lead lap and lapped riders.
- Cam Petersen un-laps himself with a big move into turn 1 and Hayes gets out of the seat going onto the banking. Herrin outbrakes Petersen going into bus-stop to re-lap the factory Yamaha man.
- Hayes and Paasch look for a double draft going into turn one and they get very close to passing. Its Herrin, leading Petersen (on track), followed by Hayes and Paasch.
- Somehow Cam Petersen is back on the lead lap due to some technical regulations, so he is now racing for the win with the lead pack. Hayden Gillim drafts up to 2nd place going into turn one behind the leader Josh Herrin. Josh Hayes runs it wide going into the horseshoe, spinning up coming back onto the racing line. Gillim passes Herrin to take the lead for the first time. Top five are: 95, 1, 45, 96, and a slight gap to number 4.
- FOUR LAPS TO GO and Gillim holds onto the lead; and has a gap as the group runs through the infield. 95, 45, 1, 4, 96. Then Petersen passes for the first position at the bus-stop chicane.
- 8 Riders, 4 wide on the banking as the Daytona 200 goes into extra innings. The field comes back together through the infield as Herrin run Josh Hayes a little wide and makes a pass back. Petersen opens up a little lead coming onto the banking.
- Gillim catches up to Petersen coming across the line while Josh Herrin runs wide going into turn one. Blake Davis (22, Biothermal/Blake Davis Racing Yamaha YZF-R6) comes out of nowhere to take 3rd place. I still have no idea where he came from. It is 95, 45, 22, 4, 1, 96 onto the banking with 1 ½ laps to go. Blake Davis has a double draft going into the bus-stop to take second place.
- Petersen leads on the banking going into the last lap. Gillim, Hayes and Davis slide up the banking and get bogged down while Herrin runs to the bottom, past those three and then past Petersen for the lead. Cam Petersen has a ton of chatter going into the horseshoe and barely gets it stopped. Coming onto the first part of the banking and Herrin’s Ducati is a bucking bronco, throwing him around as Josh Hayes slips underneath with Petersen following. It’s 45, 4, 1, 96, 22 heading across the banked tri-oval. Hayes leads Herrin, Petersen, Paasch, Davis, and Gillim into the bus-stop. Herrin loses the front changing direction in the middle of the chicane; he saves it but cost himself a lot of time to Josh Hayes who has a bit of a gap on the leading group. The run to the line features Hayes leading with a descent gap, Herrin leading Petersen and Paasch who slides underneath Cam for the pass. Blake Davis and Hayden Gillim opt for the high line and they both go past Petersen and Paasch. Paasch drafts between Davis and Hayes to second while Herrin runs low to pass Hayes and….Josh Herrin wins the overtime Daytona 200 by .07 over Josh Hayes, followed by Cam Petersen, Hayden Gillim and a sneaky PJ Jacobsen, all within a second of the Ducati!
